A silhouette of a woman sobbing in front of orange sky. Finally, a man (George Reeves) kisses a woman’s hand – the woman (Vivian Leigh) is at the very least disinterested, if not disgusted.

Directed by Victor Fleming, George Cukor, and Sam Wood, the film follows the romantic pursuits of plantation owner’s daughter Scarlett (Vivian Leigh) in the midst of the American Civil War (between the North and South of the USA, predominantly on the topic of slavery) and subsequent Reconstruction era (the period in which former slaves were becoming integrated in mainstream society).
